Definitively a skill and a craft. Using traditional ingredients of Sugar, butter, condensed milk, milk and vanilla but not compromising on technique, This requires, and deserves, to be heated on a hob. This allows the sugar to slowly dissolve and then slowly re-crystallise whilst being stirred.

There is something very special about the original, the simple use of Sugar, Butter, Condensed Milk, Milk and Vanilla. The perfect finish and the snap as the block is broken into smaller pieces.
However, some flavours can go very well instead of the Vanilla. Adding a good dose of coffee gives you a wonderful finish, and a little addictive. A particularly well liked addition is a peaty single malt whisky instead of the vanilla. This poses challenges in the production as vanilla is condensed into an essence - but the resulting flavour is worth the hassle.
We have also successfully experimented with Vegan tablet. Photographed here, we made it using oat based alternatives which gave a slightly oaty back taste so have re-defined our Vegan recipe to use coconut based alternatives instead.
